Sunset Reflections, Mykonos Island, Greece

This was a moment of pure, unadulterated warmth, a feeling of being enveloped in the golden glow of the setting sun.

The first thing that struck me was the colour. The sky was ablaze with oranges and reds, a fiery canvas that seemed to stretch into infinity. The sun hung low on the horizon, casting its warm light across the vast expanse of the Aegean Sea.

I wanted to capture that sense of warmth, that feeling of being bathed in the golden light. I knew I needed to emphasize the reflections on the water, to show the way the sunlight danced and shimmered across the surface.

The distant silhouette of the island, a dark line against the fiery sky, provided a sense of depth and perspective. It added a sense of context, a reminder of the broader landscape surrounding Mykonos. The subtle variations in colour, the way the light touched the hills, added a sense of atmosphere, drawing the eye into the scene.

The small boat, a dark speck on the horizon, added a touch of human presence to the vast seascape. It provided a sense of scale, a reminder of the human connection to the sea. The way it moved across the frame, leaving a trail of ripples in its wake, added a sense of dynamism to the scene.

I aimed to frame the scene so the sun’s position within the vast expanse of sea and sky felt harmonious. That horizon line, those gentle colour gradations, the water’s serene texture – they all worked together nicely. Ultimately, it was about more than just a pretty picture. It was about bottling that feeling, that sense of quiet wonder that washed over me as I watched the sun dip below the horizon.
