Creative landscape and architectural photography has never been more accessible, thanks to improvements in technology that have allowed the development of high-quality ultra-wideangle lenses. With increasing numbers of manufacturers introducing such lenses, LEE Filters has adapted its highly successful SW150 filter system to be compatible with more of them than ever before.
The SW150 Mark II system remains suitable for use with the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, for which it was originally designed, and can now also be fitted to the following lenses*:
Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 II DG HSM
Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX
In addition, the range of filters available for this system has been extended and now, as well as neutral-density filters and grads, photographers can also use the SW150 Mark II with a circular polariser, and the Big and Little Stopper long-exposure filters.
The SW150 Mark II filter holder is attached to the lens via a Lens Adaptor, which is purchased separately and has been specifically designed for each individual lens. The holder comes assembled with two slots, allowing the combining of filters for creative photography, and helping the desired result to be achieved in camera, rather than afterwards in postproduction.
In addition, the Mark II system is fitted with a Lightshield. This helps combat rear reflections, and creates a light-tight seal that enables the use of the Big and Little Stopper. Owners of the Mark I system can purchase a Lightshield separately and retro fit it to their existing SW150 holder.
Due to the size of the front element of ultra-wideangle lenses, filters for the SW150 are necessarily larger than those in the other LEE Filters systems. Neutral-density grads measure 150x170mm, while standard filters, the Stoppers and the polariser are 150x150mm.
