Photo Tour • Iceland

Intro

Skogafoss,-Iceland-0719High mountains, volcanoes with huge craters, majestic glaciers, bleak rocky deserts, mountain lakes, immense lava fields and geothermal hot springs. Welcome to the highlands of Iceland.

The Icelandic Highlands are where man has never made his home and is still a rare visitor. This area has never been inhabited or cultivated. Here, nature is still at its rawest.

View-from-Hnausapollur-Crater-2290The Highlands of Iceland seem forbidding, especially to a landscape photographer, but only at first. Once you start exploring the inner secrets held within the realm of fire and ice, a sense of adventure takes hold and guides you through a world that you could never have imagined.

Jökulsárlón-Icebergs,-Iceland-1367Vast and fascinating, the Icelandic highlands is an isolated, raw and rugged expanse which once visited, can never be forgotten. This is a region where you feel humbled by extraordinary scenery and breathtaking views.

iceland-2016-groupThe group size for this tour is strictly limited to six people. Due to its very small size group, this photo tour will allow plenty of time for individual attention by the tutor, making sure you photograph the area under the best light and supervision possible.

Equipment requirements

Camera and lenses
Please make sure you know how to use your camera or at least the basic functions – make sure you bring the camera's manual along with you. Focal length of wide angle to 300mm will be adequate.

Tripod
A sturdy tripod is strongly recommended as it can get windy in Iceland. If you need advice on purchasing a tripod, we recommend the Manfrotto 055 or similar. If you own a low budget light aluminium tripod or a light travel tripod and you are wondering if it will be suitable, no, it will not. We strongly suggest you contact us about the tripod you own and ask for our advice.

ND Grad filters
Neutral Density Graduated filters are highly recommended for balancing exposure difference between land and sky. We recommend a 1.5 stop hard and a 3 stop soft (if you are just starting with filters). Full instruction can be given during the workshop to help you with the correct use of filters.

ND filter
To get the very best out of your images and the locations, we suggest that you bring a good Neutral Density filter with you such as the Lee Little Stopper or Big Stopper for long exposures.

Shutter release cable
You will need one for longer than 30 seconds exposures.

Clothing
Warm and weatherproof clothing and neoprene wellies (if possible) is a must as the weather can be quite cold this time of year, especially during twilight times that we will be photographing. Temperatures can range from +4 to +18. ☀ ☁ ❄.

We also encourage you to bring some digital files of your previous work as there might be opportunities to discuss your portfolio and supply you with beneficial feedback.

Insurance

Although all 'Inspiring Photography Workshops' clients are covered by our public liability insurance, we recommend that you take your own travel insurance also.

Bruce Smith • Iceland Photo TourIt was a fabulous time in Iceland in August. The tour was planned perfectly - from meeting us at the airport to dropping us off at the end, and everything in between. The weather even cooperated!

Iceland is not to be missed and we saw some incredible sights, both along the coast and in the interior highlands.

Thanks, Dimitri!
