Intro
This is an exclusive, all inclusive photo tour for 3 lucky participants to Scotland's most northernly coastline. You will be picked up at Glasgow airport, transferred to the photo tour location and dropped off at Glasgow airport to catch your flight back home. If you live in Scotland, arrangements can be made for a pickup at your house.
The small group of only three participants will allow plenty of time for individual attention, making sure you photograph the area under the best light and supervision possible.
All transport, airport pickup and drop-off, accommodation, breakfast, packed lunch and 2-course dinner are included in the price.
The Locations
Durness is a village in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north coast of the country in the traditional county of Sutherland, around 120 miles north of Inverness. The population is dispersed and includes a number of townships including Kempie, Eriboll, Laid, Rispond, Sangobeg, Leirinmore, Smoo, Sangomore, Durine, Balnakeil and Keoldale.
Oldshoremore is a scattered crofting hamlet in the Eddrachillis parish of Sutherland. It incorporates around twenty houses, though several of these are holiday homes. Once owned by the Duke of Sutherland, Oldshoremore and the surrounding area are now part of the Sandwood Estate, a nature reserve owned by the John Muir Trust. Directly west lies Oldshoremore Bay, a sandy beach with a large headland at its northern end known as Eilean na h-Aiteig.
Cape Wrath is the most north-westerly point in mainland Britain. The cape is separated from the rest of the mainland by the Kyle of Durness and consists of 107 square miles of moorland wilderness known as the Parph. The first road was built in 1828 by the lighthouse commission across the Parph/Durness. This road connects a passenger ferry that crosses the Kyle of Durness with the buildings on the peninsula.
Tongue is a coastal village. It lies on the east shore above the base of the Kyle of Tongue and north of the mountains Ben Hope and Ben Loyal. Tongue is the main village in a series of crofting townships that runs through Coldbackie, Dalharn, Blandy and the harbour of Scullomie to the deserted township of Slettel.
Info
The cost for this photo tour is £1995 or €2295 or $2595 per person. A deposit of £500 or €600 or $700 is required to book your space. The outstanding balance will be requested 10 weeks before the tour date.
The tour starts on Monday 12 August 2019 and ends on Monday 19 August 2019.
The small group of only three participants will allow plenty of time for individual attention, making sure you photograph the area under the best light and supervision possible.
All transportation during the workshop is included in the price. Transfers to and from Glasgow airport/railway station on designated times can be arranged (please contact for details).
Please make sure you know how to use your camera or at least the basic functions – make sure you bring the camera's manual along with you. Focal length of wide angle to 300mm will be required.
A sturdy tripod is strongly recommended. If you need advice on purchasing a tripod, we recommend the Manfrotto 055 or similar. If you own a low budget light aluminium tripod such as Jessops and you are wondering if it is good enough, no, it is not. It will not allow you to trust your gear on it and it will not allow us to help you with tuition.
Neutral Density Graduated filters are highly recommended for balancing exposure difference between land and sky. We recommend a 1.5 stop hard and a 3 stop soft (if you are just starting with filters). Full instruction can be given during the workshop to help you with the correct use of filters.
To get the very best out of your images and the locations, we suggest that you bring a good Neutral Density filter with you such as the Lee Little Stopper or Big Stopper or the Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter for long exposures.
You will need one for longer than 30 seconds exposures.
Weatherproof clothing and neoprene wellies is a must as the weather can be wet, although fairly warm this time of year. ☀ ☁ ❄. We also encourage you to bring some digital files of your previous work as there might be opportunities to discuss your portfolio and supply you with beneficial feedback.
Although all 'Inspiring Photography Workshops' clients are covered by our public liability insurance, we recommend that you take your own travel insurance also.
This photo workshop does not offer post processing tuition, please see here for further details.
